It is so easy for us to forget that to create the unions and working conditions that we have today, someone had to stand up and fight the status quo to create change. Dennis L. Martire is a man that has always had a passion for helping people and when he began in the American workforce, he saw that he could do more for his fellow workers by fighting for their rights through union development work. He was born in August of 1964 and during that time, unions were just finding their footing with the American public and large commercial contracts. In 2002, at the age of 37, Dennis L. Martire was elected to be the Vice President and Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager of the Laborers’ International Union of North America. This role was an affirmation of the progress that he has made through hard work and dedication to a cause that he believes in deeply.

He began working with the Laborers in April of 1990 as an International Representative for the Laborers Union of North America Jurisdictional Disputes Department. In this department, he was able to get a first hand look at some of the issues that were burdening workers. He then became the Assistant Director and after that the Director of the Laborers’ Construction Department. No matter the role, Dennis L. Martire worked hard to fight for the people he represented and continues to do that today.
